With anxiety producing news stories every time we watch the news, why not distract yourself with the your firm’s growth, and read our second installment of a series on Digital Marketing Tactics for Accounting Firms. This short post will help you amplify your local presence to build awareness of your accounting or law practice within your geographic area.

Here are five simple steps to telling your community you exist so they can find you! (Because it’s more than just a pretty website!)

1) Consistent NAP Info – NAP is an acronym for “Name, Address, Phone” – As part of their indexing algorithms, Search Engines want to see consistent NAP information for your business on all website listings. Make sure that at the very least, your phone number and an email address are visible on every page.

2) Google Map Listing – As a local or regional accounting firm, you want to be listed on Google Maps when customers are searching for accounting firms – here’s a link that shows how to get the job done.

3) Local Directories – Another great way your practice can be found online is through local directory listings – sites like Bing, Yahoo!, Yelp, Superpages.com, Local Search and YP are just a few you’ll want to use for amplifying your local presence.

4) Reviews – What’s the best way to get reviews? Just ask your best customers (who you know won’t mind) and give them specific direction for where to post their review. In addition to where they post, it’s helpful to provide specifics you’d like included, preferably those which set you apart from your local competition. For instance, do you specialize in accounting for real estate agents? Medical offices? Tell the world who you are – and why you’re worth the change from their current accounting practice.

5) Encourage Social Sharing – The better your content (i.e. the more problems your content solves or questions it answers) the more it will be shared. A good way to share content is to make sure your blog and website have social share plugins or the popular “click to tweet” plugin. And keep that content flowing!
